Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser
Mountain Leuser National Park is a representative type of coastal forestecosystems, and lowland tropical rain forests to mountains.Almost the entire area is covered by dipterocarp forest thick withseveral rivers and waterfalls. There are rare plants and typical of a giantumbrella leaf (Johannesteijsmannia altifrons), Raflesia flower (Rafflesiaatjehensis and R. micropylora) and Rhizanthes zippelnii which is thelargest flower with a diameter of 1.5 meters. In addition, there is aunique plant or plant strangler fig.
Rare and endangered species contained in the national parks, among others, introspective / orangutan (Pongo abelii), gibbon (Hylobatessyndactylus syndactylus), Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximussumatranus), Sumatran rhino (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis sumatrensis),Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae), forest goat (Capricornissumatraensis), hornbills (Buceros bicornis), sambar deer (Cervusunicolor), and jungle cat (Prionailurus bengalensis sumatrana). GunungLeuser National Park is one defined by UNESCO as a BiosphereReserve. Based on the cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia,also designated as a "Sister Park" with Taman Negara National Parkin Malaysia
