Route Climbing Mt. Semeru

To reach the highest mountain on the island of Java, G. Semeru(3676 m) ~ is most easily reached from the direction of Malang withrising Colt Tumpang majors, then to the village Ranupane (2,200 m)by crossing the village Gubug Klakah (1,100 m) and Ngadas (2,000m) with a truck or Jeep cost Rp. 6,000 to Rp. 10.000, - per person(in 1999).

Ranupane Village (2,100 m) is the last village and place ofinspection as well as post to report for the climbers to ascend, andalso there are climbers huts for overnight and rest. Ranu Pane has apopulation of around 60 people which is a small village, their work ingeneral farming vegetables. In addition there are Ranu (lake) Pane,next to another whose name tendapat ranu Regulo Ranu.

Journey to the Top G. Semeru is started and the village of RanuKumbolo Ranupane towards morning at 7:00 through the path, the distance is 13 km., not too steep with sekitan takes 3-4 hours of travel. In the cottage there Kumbolo Ranu climber to istinahat andcooking. This area is the water is abundant and located at an altitude of 2400 m above sea level. Ranu Kumbolo has beautiful views especially in the morning when we can see matahani risesfrom the cracks of the hill.
Ranu Kumbolo – Kalimati

From Ranu Kumbolo journey continues towards Kalimati (2,700 m)through a pine forest where we sometimes encounter birds anddeer. Penjalanan is taken 2-3 hours / 10 Km. Here we can set up a tent, and when we need water to go Sumbermani, towards the western outskirts of the forest menelusuni Kalimati by traveling 1hour round trip. But the recommended water requirements have been prepared in Ranu Kumbolo.

Actually we can also pitched in Arcopodo, 1 hour drive to the top ofKalimati G. Semeru. but less stable soil conditions and frequentlandslides in the region.

From Kalimati typically the climbers start climbing toward thesummit early in the morning, ie at around 2-3 am with 1 hour throughpine forest and dunes for 2-3 hours to reach the peak, with a steepuphill road conditions.

Usual peak climb Semeru is the Peak "Mahameru". From this peakwill be visible crater called "Jonggring Saloko" a unique and onceevery 10-15 minutes spewing volcanic rock with soaring precededsmoke. The temperature at the peak of glacial Mahameru ie 0-4 Cwhich is sometimes accompanied by thick fog wind storm. At the time of the storm are encouraged to postpone the climb to thesummit.

From the summit descend back to camp (Kalimati) takes 1 hourand 3 hours to arrive at Ranu Kumbolo and takes 3 hours longer toreach Ranu Pane. When arrived at Ranu Pane mid-afternoon, ifthere is a car we could continue to fall into Gubug Klakah or toTumpang, or we can spend the night in Ranu Pane and tomorrowmorning we can go back down to Tumpang.Down from Ranupane toward Tumpang we can also go to theregion G. Bromo, via junction Jempiang (2 km before the villageNgadas) to the right.
